Description

Torquay Christmas painting Pottery Class

The Clay Club is offering this Special Christmas painting Taster class where you can paint your very own special Christmas ceramic hanging decorations during a 2 hour session. Currently we are keeping sessions small with only 6 people per session (although if you would like to book a larger group please email/call Christina directly). This is a lovely fun experience to be creative. Go solo and make friends at the class or book multiple tickets for friends and family.

This session is on Saturdays, Sundays and Thursdays with the option of different time slots. Sessions currently will run 2/3 days a week on the run up to Christmas. All current available dates can be selected from the drop-down.

These sessions are run by local potter and artist Christina. She will assist you during your session to paint up to 4 ceramic blank decorations. Christina has made all the blanks, with a HUGE selection in many styles – described below.

Once you have finished your 2 hour session; Christina will tidy up,  glaze & fire your personalised Christmas decorations. She will let you know when they are ready for pick up from the studio(approximately 2 weeks later).

Ceramic blanks, paint and firings with all necessary tools are included in the introductory price of £18 per 2 hour session.

Blank shapes

All the ceramic blanks are made by Christina in the studio. Currently these shapes are available:

  • Traditional – stars, snow globe, Santa, reindeer, gingerbread man & woman, snowman, stocking, various snowflakes, bell, candy cane, xmas tree, angel, ribbon bow
  • Baubles – various designs
  • Shapes – circles, hearts, various plaque shapes, various flowers
  • Pets – bones, retriever dog, schnauzer dog, dachshund dog, dog house, dog paw, general dog, cat face, several cat poses, horse, rabbit
  • Animals – small bird/robin, unicorn, elephant, butterfly, dinosaur
  • Toys – teddies, train, plane, car, rocking horse
  • Letters – all letters for personalised xmas decorations
  • Random – shell, cowboy boot, shooting star

Recommendation and Inspiration

There is a wide variety of colours including traditional Christmas red and green; pastels; bright and most colours you could possibly need. All customers are encouraged to research online on websites like Pinterest and Instagram for inspiration prior to your session, try searching “handmade Christmas ornaments ideas”, “handmade ceramic Christmas ornaments”. Otherwise Christina is happy to show you examples as well. OR you can go with the flow and just play and experiment painting as you like. We recommend drawing in pencil your design, as this disappears and burns off during the firing.

This is also a lovely opportunity to create personalised gifts and ornaments for the home; with friends, family and pet’s names and initials on your chosen shapes. You could also paint on non-traditional shapes to hang as decorations around your home all-year round e.g using blanks like flowers, birds, plaques with messages on. We also provide typography and calligraphy sheet examples to copy from to paint initials and names for that really professional look!

Keep in Mind

Must be 18 years or older due to insurance reasons and Health & Safety.

Must have painted pieces photographed and marked down with name so we know which decorations belong to who.

If you are attending alone, I will email you when your decorations are ready for pickup; and if you’re attending in a group I will email the person who placed the order for their group when they’re ornaments are ready for pick up with details. We do not offer delivery or mailing of Christmas ornaments at this time.

Please keep in mind that sometimes ceramic pieces do not make it through firings or come out with glaze cracking/pitting/crazing randomly or colours can come out streaky or with errors.
